Wooden wine racks are the most frequently used furniture in wine cellars. Most of them are composed by small wood pieces, trims and bar, which create separated cells for each bottle. But this hollowed structure will add up the dust more easily and make the cleaning much more difficult. It’s not as easy as cleaning a cabinet, cleaning a wooden wine rack may even make people headache. If you don’t remove the dust, the wine labels, which are also valuable for collection, will be stained. But the frequent cleaning means the wine bottles will be took out and put back several times, which has bad influence for wine aging. So how should we clean the wooden wine racks?
The answers may confuse you. Some clean it, but some don’t.
For some wine collectors, they do NOT clean the wooden wine racks unless they are shown to public. To avoid the label from stain, the wine bottle labels will be fully wrapped by plastic sheeting. And since they have the specific systems for ventilation, temperature and humidity, they would rather not clean the wooden wine rack than disturb the wine aging.
For those wine racks for display, or other wine lovers, it’s better to clean the wooden wine rack once a month, or twice a season.
First, you should take our all the wine bottles carefully, wipe the bottles with dry cloth.
Then you should use the vacuum cleaner to remove the dust cells by cells, shelf by shelf.
Later you need a clean, slightly wet rag to clean every wood piece. If the wooden wine rack is painted, you should wax them with the tasteless wax specific for wood furniture.
Finally, you should put the wine bottles back to their positions.
In normal times, you only need to maintain the wooden wine racks neat and tidy.
